LastWord

This week, I’ve been ending my sentence w/ this sub-phrase a lot at work.

Since I got out of college, due to my visa situation, it’s always one job after another. I never take more than 1 week break in between job. And within a company, I never took a break from work for more than 2 weeks of vacation. In each of the company I work for, when I leave the company to a new job, I always get a boat load of vacation cash.

So, this concept of 2 months leave from work is so new to me. I scheduled the leave 5 days before my due day. But since it’s not up to me when my boy would decide to come out, everyday now, I am wondering, would today be the day? In my morning shower or on my way drive to work, I started to think about, ah..i better tell this person more about this situation, ah.. i need to write an email to the team on a list of action items to resolve this issue. There seems to be a lot of ‘last words’ I would like to remind people around me regarding what would I do so they can continue to execute when I am not around.

But deep in my mind, I do know, folks will be fine without me 🙂 They don’t need my last words. And I am probably more annoying than helping at this point.

To extend the concept further, last words.. last actions .. what if today’s last day I have, not at work, but on this earth. What would be my last words? Now, in that picture,.. all work stuff fade away. There’s really just one person fits in that frame (hm.. soon probably will be two), and there’s really 3 short words I have in my mind.

37weeks

I haven’t felt so relaxed for a long time.

Since beginning of my pregnancy, there are so much discomfort and uncertainty. Work has always been more demanding than ever. Due to the economy, the weather in the Internet industry has been changing all the time this year. First trimester, I was trying to keep things low key w/o folks around me noticing. Eating healthy snacks through the day (I usually don’t have time to snack at work), sleep long hours, yet work 7 days a week so I can cover my normal long hours and yet, get enough sleep so I don’t appear sick at work. Second trimester, unlike most woman experiencing a break in the middle, my boy moved a lot since he’s really small and gave me a lot of discomfort. But at least, I was able to talk to folks at work about the baby and start training my replacements for my 2 months maternity leave. I spent most of my third trimester racing with time. I personally know 5 pregnant ladies who supposed to give birth month between month of Oct and Nov, 3 delivered 4-5 weeks early in this month! I worked long hours for many weeks so I can get stuff all planned before I leave them to my colleagues.

Finally, I am at ease now. I got what I wanted to finish today!

I finally have some time for myself and my baby. I feel if my baby comes tonight, I am ready to give my thoughts and my mind to him. And hopefully, starting today, I get to start blogging again more regularly until the delivery date.

This morning, I got the weekly email from the hospital w/ tips and information regarding what to expect on the 37th week of pregnancy. And I just realize, hey, my boy is now full term! He can really just come out anytime now. The last piece of our nursery furniture got delivered this morning. I’ve waited for 2 months for it to delivery, but it’s totally worth the wait. If you are looking for a nursery chair, Pottery Barn Kid’s Eco Glider is really the most comfortable chair out there. Hy bought and picked up a baby-safe & friendly car this afternoon. Both of our car are 2 doors. Now we have a 4 doors car that fits family life.

There are still small items shipping to our home. But, we are ready ~! 🙂

Through out the years, we’ve become close friends with many of our brides and grooms. Many of them are now parents. We’ve been taking photos for their little ones. We got a bunch of inquires on maternity photos as well. However, somehow, we are always too busy through out the year to schedule a maternity photo shoot session for our clients.

In the past 4 years since we started HyStudio, life has been extremely hectic for both of us. Not only HyStudio experienced fast growth, both of us are doing well in our full time career. The journey was exciting, we’ve both stretched ourselves and found that we accomplished more than we can ever dream of. The only down side of that is, we left almost no time for ourselves.

Due to the economy down turn, most of the tech companies in the valley shift their focus on internal built up, having better training, rebuilding their internal infrastructure so when the economy is back up, they are ready to surf the wave again. Earlier this year, Hy and I decided that this year is also a perfect time to focus on ourselves and next stage of our relationship. We traveled a lot from winter last year to spring this year. And sprint time, we made that big step into parenthood. We are expecting our first little boy in Nov this year!

That’s why you are not seeing so many posts on HyStudio blog. Being full time at a demanding job, it was quite tough for me to blog at all during my first trimester. Second trimester was great, I spent most of my energy getting to know all about babies from what are all the gadgets new parents need to how to take care of myself and the little one once he pops. I am in my third trimester now (9 more weeks to go), finally I have both the energy and time back to the blog space.

So, back to Project Maternity, through out this first pregnancy experience, I learned that I need to love myself. Through out all type of discomfort and sickness, I make sure I pamper myself w/ good skin care product, delicious food and new clothes and shoes to fit my every growing new sizes. Hy has also been pampering me by taking care of lots of house work. However, since we started HyStudio, one thing that I am deprived of was amount of photos of me actually went down dramatically. I used to be the only human focal point in Hy’s photo when we grew up together, w/ HyStudio, I was squeezed out of his photos. So, when I approached Hy for a Maternity Photo session, he gladly accepted. He’s never done one before, I will be his first.

Couple Sat. ago, I scheduled an appointment w/ famous Taylor Pham in her Thi Cosmetics store front in Palo Alto. Taylor did amazing work of transforming lady’s look. Hy was sweet enough to tag along and took couple pictures of my make up and hair session.

Here is Taylor working her magic on me.

I had so much fun during the hair and make up session w/ Taylor and Grace. I highly recommend you ladies to pamper yourself w/ their service on any special events you have, especially those holiday parties coming up this winter!

Through the maternity session, I was able to change 3 outfits. I like my last outfit, it looked extremely slimming, I don’t look 30 weeks pregnant at all 🙂 I bought all 3 outfits from Japanese Weekend Maternity in San Francisco. They used to have a store in Santana Row.

We started around sun set for soft lighting

The area was surrounded by cattle. The gate and fence are there to make sure they are contained.

After the photo shoot, since I am all dolled up by Team Thi Cosmetics, Hy and I head out for a nice dinner at The Village Pub at Woodside. The food was delicious!

That’s it for now ladies. We have couple more weddings, engagement shots in Sept., then we will be taking a break in Oct and Nov getting ready for our boy. I bet the lucky boy is going to get a lot of photos.

Sarah and Hamish are featured on Project Wedding, real wedding of the week. Congratulations!

Valentine’s day 2009.

It was a rough week w/ tons of work for both Hy and I. Last night, we started our long weekend w/ a long night of sleep. This is our 14th Valentines together. OMG .. We are so old!!

Didn’t plan much today. In the morning, we went to pick up the sofa we ordered last weekend. Since then, Hy’s been cleaning up the reading room (also his photo room), so we can move our new sofa in the room. Next up on the reading room project would be lighting and window treatments. I can’t wait!

While Hy’s busy cleaning the room, I spent time enjoying a slideshow Hy sent me on Friday (I know, not the best wife in the world). Hy’s been working a personal website w/ photos he took for his own entertainment: www.outnextweek.com. Friday, Hy sent me this slideshow of our ’08 Christmas trip to New York and Paris. They were good memories. I still wanted to move to Paris. I wished it would be easy to just drop everything here.

Here it is, Click on the photo to Play. Don’t forget to turn on your speaker.

“Happy Chinese New Year!” I said this morning.

“No, Happy Vietnamese New Year!” Hy corrected me. : -)

Alright, I guess we can settle w/ Happy Lunar New Year to all who came from different background.

According to .. urg, Chinese Culture?, this year is Year of Ox.

I am not sure whether other culture shares the animal sign. During this time of the year, I always miss the new year celebration ritual from my childhood memory. This is the time where endless amount of delicious food are piled up in the house (candies, sweet rice cakes, soy sauced melon seeds, turnip cakes, fish, dumplings ..etc). The house smells new and clean. Part of the new year ritual is ‘removing of the old, exchange w/ the new’, so we, the kids, were always assigned tasks for the annual house deep cleaning exercise. I guess one of the main reason for the house cleaning is during the new year, there would be lots of guests visiting. You don’t want your house look like a mess.

I don’t particularly enjoy the guests as a kid, because most are distant relatives, parent’s coworkers or business partners. What I do like though, is the red envelop they brought w/ them. All you need to do is, smile (or put on that fake one) and said “Uncle/Aunt, Happy New Year, wishing you make big money.” Then, you get a pile of cash (not bad of a deal huh?). I, the book worm, always used big percentage of the cash in the bookstore. So, after or even during New Year time, I would get new stock of books of my choosing. I remembered loving the smell of new books, and the excitement of the wonderful magical kingdoms that’s awaiting my entrance upon turning the cover.

Yesterday evening, Hy and I picked up two new bookshelves we ordered from Crate and Barrel. The down season for weddings is only time we can catch up decorating the house. I am trying to set up a reading space w/ bookshelves, cozy seating area w/ lightings. We are starting w/ the bookshelves and slowing building the whole area. Around midnight, Hy set up both bookshelves, then I spent about an hour putting part of my book collection in there.

This morning, when I walked into the room, I was really happy. The books are looking good. Reminds me again my childhood joy of reading, brought me right back to the joy of New Year season.

Hy and I will head out to relatives house’ later to hand out Red Envelops. I can’t help but wonder (sounding like Carrie Bradshaw), which and what little child’s dream will we enable tonight?

This photo was taken by Hy on Brooklyn Bridge, NYC.

Today (1/20) was a historical moment. This morning, I watched Mr. President’s Inaugural Speech before heading out the house. The speech certainly exceeded my expectation.

After coming home, I spent couple hours watching more speeches he delivered through different Inauguration Balls, re-watched this morning’s Inauguration Ceremony that I tivo-ed. Search through our first lady’s fashion choices. Shout out to fashion designer Jason Wu who was born in Taiwan. And I spent couple minutes reading through my rss feeds regarding this big historical event.

Couple links I found interesting:

I feel a bit braver to face the uncertainty that’s so real in my every day life ..
I need to be brave
I want to be brave
as tis the land of the free and the home of the brave ~
