September 2007

Tammy and Brian were referred by our 2006 HyStudio cover bride Terri. Brian’s Terri’s younger brother. Hy and I love this type of referrals, not only it’s a validation for happy clients. We also love to catch up with the family members we’ve worked with on the big day. Tammy and Brian are getting married in Oct.. Tammy & Brian run a very successful business in Southern CA. We were happy to finally schedule an engagement session out of their busy schedule. I really enjoy the city couple feeling captured in these photos.

Congratulations Tammy & Brian. Hy and I are looking forward for the big day!

It’s our first time working with McCall Weddings. After I’ve seen the outcome of the wedding, I was really intrigue. Their execution was flawless. Flower, lighting, DJ, Catering & overall decor worked so well together. I browsed their web site, trying to learn from the business perspective, why can they serve their clients so well. Then I found the About Us page. Looking through the team’s experience & background, you know they are a winning team. This makes me think about our commitments to make HyStudio a world class wedding service business, serving our brides and grooms. You, the HyStudio brides and grooms, are our focus. In order to serve you well, we need Talents who are Passionate about their work. Then, as a Team, Execute for our brides and grooms. Whether it’s preping before the photo shoots, the actually photo session, or post process the photos, we have to put in effort full heartedly to bring the best quality out of your photos. Believe or not, HyStudio is really team work. Hy and Frank pull lots of weight in bringing creative photos. Minling logs lots of hours for editorial work. Serena pulls her magic on the album design and layout. Last and not least, Hy and I oversee the post-processing end quality of the product. On top of that, if you follow this blog long enough, you probably notice, I spend lots of time thinking about HyStudio direction and development.  I know our blog readers composed of folks from the industry.  Check out McCall when you have a chance.  I would love to meet with the founder someday!

Ok, ok, I will spare you from more of these deep thoughts for your mid week break. Let’s enjoy some of the amazing detail photos from LaTanya & Robert’s wedding.

To start off, the beautiful Monique Lhuillier gown. The bridal prep was at Le Meridien San Francisco.

Simple and elegant bridal bouquet.

Hors d’oeuvres plate decor. You can see the carters really put their heart into this.

Cake by Sonya of ButterFly Cakes -well deserve the title of “the Kate Spade of wedding cakes” 🙂 Sonya designed my wedding cakes (yes I had 2 receptions) too. I love both the taste and look of my cake.

Now the breath taking reception decor

Simple, yet classic table decor

Now, focus on these following two photos. It will show you the magic of ‘lighting’. So, this first one is before lighting.

After lighting, a totally different ambiance.

Different angels of the reception hall.

Center piece details.

Thank you LaTanya and Robert, for sharing your beautiful day with us!

Venue: Old Federal Reserve Building, SF

First, rings in a very meaningful setting. That’s how the groom & bride met! 🙂

LaTanya & Robert’s beautiful daughter, Jessica with a Monique Lhuillier gown in the back drop.

Make up was done by the famous Sarah Hyde of Mill Valley.

“Hey guys, stay away, mommy’s changing.” I think that’s what Jess’ saying in this photo 😛

Here is a more explicit one :{ 😛  I love Jessica, she’s so cute!

I love the lighting and composition of this photo.

LaTanya looks gorgeous in her Monique Lhuillier gown.

First meet

Robert, LaTanya, Jessica

Anticipation right before the ceremony!

I am saving all the detail photos for another day. But here is a sneak preview of the reception setting. McCall Wedding Design did an amazing job. The reception area was breath-taking!

First Dance:

More dancing

Lastly, the venue and surrounding area at night.

Congratulations LaTanya & Robert. The wedding was really beautiful.

For those of you who wanted to see more, check back with us later this week. I will be posing more detail photos!

Yesterday, I showcased couple photos from Migi & Min’s engagement session. Here is the slideshow from the e-session. Enjoy & Happy Friday ~

This song by ‘Sara Bareilles” Many The Miles, really described the couple’s love story.

There’s too many things that i haven’t done yet
Too many sunsets
I haven’t seen
You can’t waste the day wishing it’d slow down
You would’ve thought by now
I’d have learned something

I made up my mind when i was a young girl
I’ve been given this one world
I won’t worry it away
But now and again i lose sight of the good life
I get stuck in a low light
But then Love comes in

How far do i have to go to get to you
Many the miles
Many the miles
How far do i have to go to get to you
Many the miles
But send me the miles and i’ll be happy to follow you Love

Migi & Min both lived in LA area with their parents when they were young. They attended to same university. They had lots of common friend. But somehow, they’ve never met. Migi moved to NYC for her master degree. One day Min visited one of his friend in NYC, finally, their path crossed.

Min moved to NYC for her. Now, they will be Mr. and Mrs. in Nov. The wedding will be in Southern California where both families live. And this will be HyStudio’s first ‘destination’ wedding! 🙂 “Many the Miles” in many way!

We waited a long time before Min and Migi finally had time to meet with us, as they were still live in NYC until recently. We weren’t planning for a engagement session due to this distance.

Couple days before we met with Min and Migi, Hy had this realization. “I need to train myself to take photos anywhere, even where there is no beautiful background. If I can do that, I will be able to create beautiful photos in any condition on the wedding day!”.

Of course, being a good manager, 😉 I definitely love to see folks continue to challenge themselves. My job, is to create opportunities. I thought, hey.. since Min and Migi didn’t expect a photo session, maybe we can just ask them to come a bit early to our regular meeting time and see what we can do next to our house. “Here is the rule of the game.” I told Hy. “You have 3o minutes. You don’t get to do scouting ahead of time. Drive Min and Migi out, see what you can do in our neighborhood”.

And today, you are seeing the results of that challenge! I am really a proud mama!

Not bad huh ? 😉

Migi & Min, thanks so much for being flexible with us. We are so looking forward for the wedding in couple weeks!

Caitlin and Alex are getting married Nov. this year. They picked a very unique location for their engagement photo session. I’ve shown you some teasers couple weeks ago.

Here are some of our favorites from the same e-session.

After the bamboo forest, they headed off to the beach.

This following photo is my favorite.

Congratulations Caitlin and Alex. Can’t wait for your big day!

Let’s give a big applause to Hy. This is Hy’s first blog post. Enjoy – Annie

Talk about balancing work and life, I recently discover a secret to handle just that. I won’t go into the detail of my priority list since it may not apply to everybody. But one important discipline for me is be able to put myself as one of the top priorities in my life. Last week, I snatched a few hours after work and hiked Mission Peak. Mission Peak is just ten minutes aways from our house. At this time of the year, the grass was brown-ish but the sunset was spetacular. The heavy haze turned the horizon into an alienated planet. Despite the high living costs and busy lifestyle, it is truely a blessing to live in the Bay Area. You have access to virtually everything.

Along the way, a few mountain bikers and hikers stopped and cherished the solemn moment.
