March 2007

Tim & Mai Han booked us Jan. this year for their wedding in Feb. That was rather unusual for the brides in bay area. As most of bay area brides we know planned their wedding at least a year ahead. Then we found out Tim was a photographer when he was in Vietnam. Because of his background, he has been looking for a photographer who fits his style for a long time. The search was over when he ran into Hy’s website.

Tim told us, he was really touched while looking at the slideshow sample we sent him. He said he could really experience what Hy’s trying to capture. We were honored to hear that, especially from a photographer.

Past month has been very rough for us, with some family emergencies. Mai Han and Tim has been extremely patient with us for their wedding photos to be ready. They are such a kind couple. Hy has been working really hard last couple weeks to catch up on the time lost. Tonight, finally the photos for the slideshow are ready. I am really proud of the photos. There are so many really creative ones..

Tonight, I am going to show you one of my favorite here. I will post more over the weekend.

Congratulations Mai Han & Tim ~

Frank tagged along with Hy for an engagement session for the first time. Yesterday, he dropped by with some photos. Here are some best shots from Frank’s camera.

Frank just started. I can see he has really high potential. I can’t wait to see more from him this year! I will show you what’s in Hy’s camera in couple weeks. There are many really cool photos to come.

How can one not fall in love with Jessica?

The happy family ~

First time we met with LaTanya & Robert were at our ‘studio’.  I fell in love with their daughter Jessica first time we met. I remembered Hy and I talking with LaTanya and Robert, but my mind was actually on Jessica. 😛 I took my sister’s stuff animal bear and played with Jessica. We were up and down our stairs and had a fun time while daddy and mommy looked through Hy’s portfolio.

Feb. weather was unpredictable most days. Luckily on LaTanya & Robert’s engagement photo day, the day was clear. Hy had a beautiful clear day to work with. Following are some of my favorites:

We also did some family photos on the same day. I will pose some of them later in the week.

Past week was crazy. Lots going on at work and in our life. I am so glad that weekend is here so we can catch up on some sleep.

Last week, I show case the one year old baby Thy. This week, I want to show case the older kids from the same family!

Energetic boy Desmond – Thy’s elder brother.

Thy’s sister Vanessa.

Beauty gene runs in the family.

Already a little model.

All 3 lovely kids

Last weekend, one of our August bride shared with me about how stressful she feels right now with so many milestones she need to achieve before her wedding. She feels like she can not handle it anymore. I think many of you girls, with or without a wedding to prepare, has been in that state from time to time. Whether you are in school or working, the fast pace of the modern life makes us feel that we don’t even have time to breath.

Besides helping Hy with HyStudio, I am a working gal in Silicon Valley. I am struggling with work and life balance every single day. There are good days when I feel I am contributing positively to the tasks at hand. I feel so fortunate to have a job that I love passionately. There are bad days when I feel that if I put in 1 more minute, I will faint. On those days, I don’t even know how I can live on for one more day. (ok.. a bit exaggerating here, but y’all know what I mean.)

Hy on the other hand, knows well on how to balance his life. We dated 10 years before we got married. Even back in the school days, Hy was the one who dragged me away from my computer to enjoy life’s beauty. Hy was the one who pointed out that the leaves were changing color in the Fall season, the bright color bird rested on the tree branches, while I had my eyes fixed on the road with my mind puzzling on those annoying programming bugs that needed to be resolved. (We were Computer Science major).

Hy saw me working way too much these days as I am in transition to a new role at work. This Sat. afternoon, Hy pushed me out of our front door and took me for a short hike in Saratoga. We went for a short trial behind the beautiful Villa Montalvo property in Saratoga, which also happens to be one of the popular wedding venue.

My best friend got married here couple years ago. I was her maid of honor. Visiting the site again triggers sweet memories. The girl now lives outside of the country. I really missed her.

The weather was really nice. I can smell the sweet smell of grass and flowers on the property. During the short hike, we had time to laugh over couple things and enjoyed short moments of getting away from our daily routines.

Hy got his detail lens with him in the afternoon. He loves nature. He used to do this, going on trails and taking photos all day every spring weekend, before HyStudio. He was cheerful like a little boy that he had time out to take nature photos.

Different type of flowers blooming in the Villa Montalvo garden. The gardeners and landscapers did an amazing job with the garden.

Since Hy comes to Villa Montalvo more often than I am, Hy recognized this statue and told me this is “Adam and Eve”. “How do you know?” I asked. “Because there is a snake in the back.” I didn’t believe him, so I walk behind the statue, there is! Check it out next time you are there.

Hy just can’t stop being a wedding photographer .. nice couple shot isn’t it ? haha . .

Girls, give yourself a break sometimes. Wedding planning is very stressful. There are so many details to think and to plan. But when you feel like you can’t go on anymore, give yourself a time out. Your wedding day will come and go, but your love for each other and your life together will be what last.

Drop everything wedding related for a short moment. Breath and treasure the special person who’s next to you. Walk out of that door with that dear fiance of yours, and LIVE.

Last week, we heard back from Ky and Shelby. Baby Kaden just arrived March this year. We did Ky and Shelby’s wedding back in 2005. Hy and I are so happy for the Hunt family.

We got many requests this past 2 years regarding kids or family photos. Due to resource limitation, we had to turn them down. In the past, Hy only shoots family/kids photos for friends and families. Though I gotta said, Hy has some magic around the little ones. We rarely have a chance to showcase kids photos in our HyStudio website, as the focus of that site is weddings. I am so happy that now I can show y’all more photos here.

Following are some photos Hy took last year. They were Baby Thy’s one year old photos. Baby Thy just learned how to stand. Mommy asked Hy to capture that special moment for the family.

Baby Thy still crawling ….

Little girl happy to see uncle Hy ..

Hy arrived at Lunch time. Thy took a ‘milk break’ in between shoots.

Time to show uncle Hy and mommy that I can stand ..

This year, Hy’s open to take children’s photos for our old/new HyStudio brides and grooms. In fact, we just did a small family photo session last weekend. We will be show casing the photos in couple weeks. As Frank take on more HyStudio weddings in 2008, I hope Hy will have more time to do children’s photos.
