Ceremony: Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph, San Jose, CA
Reception: Mountain Winery, Saratoga, CA
There are just so much to say about Lien and Binh, how special they meant to Hy and I. Before I start my long story, let me remind you girls to be sure to check out their slide show at the end of this post.
Let’s start with some photos:
My fair lady, Lien.
The couple exchanged their vows in the grand St. Joseph cathedral of San Jose.
Mr & Mrs
I mentioned in my previous post that Lien and Binh are special to Hy and I.
Here is the story:
Hy and I hosted our reception in Mountain Winery 2 years ago. Back then, it was HyStudio’s first year. Not much people heard of us, it wasn’t easy to build momentum. We were struggling with products; in the first couple months of HyStudio, we haven’t had albums built in our packages. At the same time, Hy was trying to accelerate quality for each wedding he shot.
I remembered on our wedding day, while enjoy our time at Mountain Winery. I said to Hy “Wouldn’t it be really something if we can shoot a wedding here some day?” Hy replied. “Yeah, that would really be God’s validation to us that we have His blessing to run this business.” I secretly made a prayer: “Dear God, I really wish we can come back here one day for a wedding. But next time we are back, I wish Hy’s here shooting a wedding”. Thinking back, I was really a nerd; What was I doing thinking about business on my wedding date But I guess that also showed back in my mind, I really care about HyStudio.
When Lien wrote her first email in Aug 2006 to HyStudio mentioning that she’s planning a wedding at Mountain Winery, I somehow knew in my heart that Lien and Binh will book us. Lien and Binh’s wedding is actually very close to our 2nd year anniversary. I knew that it is God’s validation to us that we have His blessing to move forward; He will bless HyStudio and guide this business with His own hand.
When Lien and Binh came in for first visit, we hit it off right away. Lien and Binh emailed us back in 2 weeks that they decided to go with us Hy and I knew that we will really enjoy our journey together. And as you can see in all these photos, we indeed have a lot of fun and joy. And God really blessed Hy and I beyond our imagination in past two and half years.
Now some photos from this special place, Mountain Winery:
Lien and Binh, Hy and I are really fortunate to cross path with you in our life. You meant so much to us!
I purposefully skip a lot of detail photos and some vendor details. I will be posting them this weekend in the next post. There are so many amazing photos in this set, I am having such a difficult time selecting images to post.
For those of you who enjoyed the photos thus far, please check out Lien and Binh’s wedding slide show by clicking here. Remember to turn on your speaker. Enjoy ~

Hy and I are quite busy these days. We are working hard on the photos at hand. We are also working closely with our brides who are getting married in July.
Recently, people at work has been thinking about the question “Why do we do what we do? Is it worth while to devote so much of ourselves at work?” I think this is a question that working adult would ask themselves in their career life, especially with long work hours we endure in the Silicon Valley.
Hy and I ask ourselves, “What drives us to thrive for HyStudio?”
Every time we think about our brides; how excited and happy our bride & groom and their family would feel once they see the wedding photos, we taste the sweetness of our labor. We have so many amazing photos at hand. I will be publishing them once I feel they are ready to be seen. Please be patient and check back with us often this summer.
I’ve know people around me, who has to work hard on visions they don’t believe in. Many work on things not so fulfilling just so they can support the family and pay the mortgage. For Hy and I, we are fortunate and blessed to be working hard on stuff we truly love and enjoy.
One of our upcoming wedding in July will be at Ruby Hill Golf Club in Pleasanton, CA. Here are 2 photos from Hy’s site visit couple weeks ago. The site is so beautiful. I can’t wait to see the photos coming out of that wedding. We also have a wedding scheduled in the same location summer of 2008. Berni, the director of wedding events at Ruby Hill is super helpful.

I love working on “day after” photos. The bride and groom always look more relax in the photos, full of love in their eyes and just enjoy the day. There is no pressing for time; no worries of what may got on the gown. The stress of big day is over, upcoming the beginning of new chapter of life together.
Here are very few teaser shots from Camille + Michael’s ‘day-after’ session. I am keeping all the real cool ones for later. Be sure to check back with us. I chose the following three, they are just simple, classic and elegant photos.
Out of 3, my favorite is this following one. And guess who took this: Frank!! So, mr. & mrs. of 2008, book Frank fast before we move up his package pricing Frank always find ways to out-preform himself!
Congratulations Camille & Mike. I know you are probably still having lots of fun at your honeymoon! Hope these photos bring smiles on your face.

I know this congratulations message is probably couple weeks late. Nevertheless, we have couple brides and grooms graduating this summer. You know who you are. Just want to say “Congratulations!” You made it!
My latest graduation was back in 2000 for a master degree. I am the nerdy type that enjoy reading and school. I was seriously considering going back to school for a MBA degree. The thought is still in the back of my mind. Maybe someday you will see me at Berkeley, Stanford or Harvard campus.
This picture is from Hy’s nephew’s high school graduation couple weeks ago! Congratulations John for making it through ~

I introduced Minling, our newest HyStudio team member, in our last “Studio Pulse” blog entry.
I mentioned Minling loves children. She just loves to be around kids and kids love to be around Minling. I’ve known Minling for many years through the church I grew up in. She runs our church’s children program. I work with Minling as one of the Sunday school teacher for our church’s children program. Introducing Minling this way made her sound old, she’s actually couple years younger than me. She’s just really blessed with talent around kids!
Here is some photos Minling took while baby sitting Julianne one afternoon last week.
Hy took some photos for Julianne when she was a month old last year. Now, she’s already 1 and half years old! Time really flies. Julianne is such an adorable girl!
Minling told me that she will spend more time with kids this summer. Hopefully I will get to show you more of her work through summer time!

The photos I show you couple days ago were actually the 2nd part of Lien and Binh’s Day-After photos. Today, I am show casing the first session. Let’s start with 2 photos.
*** BTW, big warning about this post: “Thou shall read the blog text end to end” ***
Hy and I had always told our clients that we are willing to try new places. It’s fun for us. Lien and Binh asked us if we want to go to Europe for a photo session for some old castle photos. Sure, why not. Hy and I want to work on the destination wedding side of business for 2008, Europe is a perfect start.
We searched the web for Lien’s requirement, red brick castle. Salses Castle, France came up. (Be sure to click on the link to see the beautiful Castle in full view!). After couple email exchanges, we decided on the location. I was very excited!
So, Lien, Binh, Hy, Frank and I went on the HyStudio private jet and arrived the shooting location. Before I go on more with my STORY, let me show you couple more photos from the session.
Ok girls.. by the time you read about HyStudio private jet, you should be very suspicious .. LOL ..
Please excuse me for misleading you for a short paragraph read. My story is simply a fantasy. It would be very nice to have a HyStudio private jet. But it’s very far fetching and a luxury we don’t need in our simple life. Hopefully the destination wedding part is something achievable in 2008.
I do have a point to make for this little dreamy sidetrack.
San Francisco is just so BEAUTIFUL and dynamic! Lien and Binh’s photo session is taken right locally at SF city. We are very fortunate to live in this area. They didn’t have to go all the way to France for artsy unique photos, though I believe all of us wouldn’t mind the traveling.
If you read all the way here without getting distracted by Hy & Frank’s beautiful work or Lien & Binh’s perfect modeling, you deserve to know the truth:
Lien asked Hy and I whether there are locations that we wanted to do but haven’t had a chance. Sure, I have a long list. Some nice historic site south CA, Vegas stripe, Grand Canyon, Bora Bora, Egyptians dessert, icy Glacier, the unrealistic remote location list go on and on. I just couldn’t think of anywhere locally.
Lien came back with this location! I was like, “WOW.. how can i forget about this location.” Hy and I did a scout trip around SF 2 years ago. We both found this spot fascinating. I remembered we told each other, it would be really cool if a bride wants to do photos here. But chances are slim, we thought, cuz it does feel kind of spooky inside.
That was 2 years back. Lien actually brought back that memory. And look at what Hy and Frank created I couldn’t be more proud.
Mr. & Mrs., hope you two enjoy this set as well. Thank you for contributing to this creative process. We really had fun ~
And 2008 brides, I am serious about the destination weddings in 2008. Come talk to us!

I am so please to show case HyStudio’s first ever “Day-After” photo session.
Let’s start with a sexy photo of the newlywed.
Not only Lien and Binh are our depute ‘day-after’ photos newlywed, Lien and Binh are also extra special to Hy & I in many ways. Part of it, Lien, Binh, Hy and I have something big in common; we all had our wedding reception at Mountain Winery in Saratoga. Another part of why they are special, I will save that big story for Lien & Binh’s wedding photo post. Stay tuned ..
Many of our faithful blog readers may wonder, where is the wedding pictures, we don’t remember seeing wedding photos.
And you are right.
Hy and I are still working on the wedding photos. The wedding was filled with so many beautiful details that it’s going to take us a while before we can finish.
So, then you ask, why am I showing the ‘Day-After’ photos before I finish the wedding day photos.
Because .. because .. because I just can’t wait that long, girl friends!!
Lien and Binh’s ‘day-after’ photos are just so sexy and romantic, I just can’t lock them on my computer and not share with you guys. I bet you girls know what I mean …
Lien picked the bridge location. Lien told me she’s just really drawn to the red bridge. Lien, did you remember we also have a red bridge shoot for your engagement? Guess you are just really into the red bridges
I can’t blame her. The location looks deadly romantic.
I especially love this view. Hy can always show me views I can’t even imagine.
Lien and Binh are good sports. They look comfortable and relax in the photos, but the day is actually extremely cold and windy. But because of it’s windy, we can create the following beautiful veil flowing shots.
This last photo can be a prelude to the next teaser series for Lien and Binh. Other than the red bridges, Lien also love old run down buildings. I will have more to show next time. Have a good week girls.
Congratulations Lien and Binh!

, We will
Sandy & Joe are getting married next month. Joe loves photography as a hobby. Sandy is a trained piano performer and an artist. So, I asked Hy to try something out of ordinary in terms of editing for their photos we post below.
BTW, most of the photos below, 9 out of 13, are taken by Frank. For those of you who are considering, I suggest you to snatch Frank fast. With Frank’s photo quality, we would soon stop giving discount to his photo packages.
Starting with an intimate close up.
I really love the old school, post card feeling of this photo. It shows San Francisco as a city with history. Hy doesn’t understand why I love this photo so much, but I just really really love it.
SF water front. The day was extremely cold and windy. But we don’t see that at all in the photos.
Sandy specially requested some photos with the cable car. Other than some standard shots with cable car exterior, Frank and Hy did some creative ones inside the cable car. And like I said before, the boys love to play with the sun.
More photos with SF water front. I really enjoy seeing different sides of SF. The city is just so dynamic ~
We were lucky to catch the sun set.
Lastly, the soon to be Mr. and Mrs.
Sandy & Joe, we are looking forward for the big day next month. We hope you enjoy the little fun Hy and I have with your photos here.
